Diary Entry #003 Christmas special!

001) Heya, there was no diary post last week, cause I was just too busy, but anyway's here's what I've been doing!
Been working a lot at RWDmagazine, the latest issue is about to be released in the shops, all JD stores and I'm really excited :D It's funny because as soon as we finished the January issue we had to get started on the February issue literally straight away! Got soo much exciting news to tell you about RWD, but that can come in later blog posts :) but what I can tell you is, is that Jessie J is hopefully going to be on our February front cover! I can't tell you how excited I am because I actually LOVE her music but yeah, so excited about that cause that means I'll be helping my boss out down the photo studio! Can't wait to meet her :D

Check out her latest video here :)

Wanna know what it's like working for a magazine?

Hey hey hey,

So all this week I've been doing mad hectic stuff what with school work, coursework, blogging work, housework and now real work ! LOL
Basically I've started working for a magazine called 'RWD', and I can safely say that... I LOVE I!

This is going to sound bizarre but this all started by my blog. Basically I've been reading RWD mag since way back, and I've always loved picking it up because it's a really 'down with the youth' kinda mag - it's not high fashion, or celeb endorsed goss, I would say its quite an urban type magazine? So due to my love for the magazine, I sent the office an email, explaining why I love their magazine, and why I have an interest in fashion, explaining how dedicated and passionate I am about fashion writing, and what I do in my spare time that relates to why I'm emailing them in the first place i.e. blogging.

Now I never thought I'd get called back but surprisingly I did, and ever since then I've been experiencing the true essence of working for a magazine company.

Before everyone gets bored - let me show you what I've been doing :)

Okay, so these are the style pages - as you can probably see the main focus is on menswear. Now  I was quite naive when it came to this kinda stuff, cause I never actually realised how much work goes into this type of page. I thought - just get the images and put them in the mag, write about them here and there. But NO. Just these pages alone are a lot of hard working which my boss has been teaching me. You have to contact PR companies so that they can send you the images of clothes, you pick the clothes you want they send you samples of the clothes, you pick the samples you want then you go and set up a photo shoot to take pics of the clothes, you write the text, the page gets designed. Basically everyone has an input in them !

RWD magazine is A LOT of fun, I LOVE being a part of it, especially as it's been my favourite magazine for ages (alongside Vogue, Elle, i.D)

Now I know a lot of you fashion bloggers dreams is to be working for a magazine so every week, I am going to update you with behind the scenes pictures of what really goes on @ a magazine! (I start back January 5th btw guys)

Really and truly what I want to say to you guys is, is that when you feel like nothings work out, when you feel like you wanna give up, when you feel like your putting soo much effort into your blog and nobodies commenting or following - DON'T GIVE UP. Continue - I really and truly believe that everything happens for a reason.

I went for a job at Selfridges, I didn't get it, that was for a reason - because then I got this massive break!
If your extremely passionate about what you do, and you really want nothing else than to be fashion writing, or working for a magazine/newspaper/online, then don't give up. The fashion industry is really hard to break into, if you know yourself that you've got the dedication, the drive & the determination - then keep going until you achieve your dreams.

#nothings stopping you!

Believe in yourself

I got really happs when I saw this hahha ---------->

advice:
  • Before you send off any emails, get experience (I worked as a contributor for a different magazine before) you can contribute to places like IFB, or Style sample magazine.  Get as much experience as you can.
  • Write a cover letter explaining why you love fashion, and what you gain out of fashion writing (make sure to mention that you blog in your spare time) talk about your past experiences as a fashion writer.
  •  E-mail editor's of magazines, some well known, some not as known, send them your cover letter, your link of your blog and so on... ( I would say letters get more noticed, it's kinda personal?)
  •   Start taking this seriously, think of this as your 50 and this is your last chance to make it as a fashion writer - do everything you can and more to make it known to magazines, websites, newspapers that you want this bad, contribute as much as you can - your gunner be expected to do unpaid work at first.
  • and last but not least - DON'T give up :)

Has Erdem changed for the best?

Okay, well as many of you know, I am quite biased when it comes to Erdem, because not only is he my favourite designer, but every design in every collection of his has had the 'OMG I WANT THAT SOO BAD' remark! So obviously when I heard that he had designed a pre fall collection I was really excited to see the collection.

'hmmphhh' was my reaction.

I kinda like this dress though.
OMG I'm actually sad cause I don't wanna start cussing Erdem down or nothing but, I was... disappointed. Yes that's the word, disappointed. When looking at the collection I seriously felt like I fell asleep in a time machine, then woke up in the 1950's - don't get me wrong, I like the idea of repeating 'old school' fashion, but this just went a bit too far in my opinion.

Too androgynous?

I don't know what it is :/ maybe it's the fact that it doesn't really remind me of the Erdem that I know and love.

REWIND....

I assume some people may be reading this like, 'what is she talking about? :s' but if I maybe show you what I mean, instead of writing what I mean,
I think it will come across easier for you guys if I try and explain visually...

This is what I miss!
Now do you see what I'm saying?
I miss the floral print, the short dress', the peter pan collars, the long feminine maxi dress'. What I'm tryna say... is that I miss the way Erdem creates such sophisticated dress' but doesn't make the dress age us by ten/twenty years, I love the way he creates such cute and chic clothes that can be worn by all women due to the patterns/ length, colour and appearance of a-line for older women.

So when I look at his new collection, I just feel like he's forgot about all his fans out there that loves him for what he does best - I feel like his moved away from girls, and has just catered for fashionable older women. I believe that this collection is taking a much more vintage inspired approach?

Okay so let's move away from the bad points now - let me focus on some of the pro's:

PATTERNS:

Even though the colour palette is of a much more moodier origin, I like the way how he's incorporated a new kind of pattern into his work!
Erdem's best known for his floral patterns, but for the pre fall collection, he chose to use a firework image, and this was printed over most of his collection. It's good that he's looking at different patterns and prints, and I love the colouring of this specific dress.

LACE

I love the fact that since he has started designing there has always been a bit of lace used in his designs. Because of this I think lace along with the floral print really captures Erdem's individuality which is why as soon as you see Erdem's collection, without hearing his name mentioned - you immediately know its his!

I did actually have a favourite outfit from this pre fall collection which i would wear...

LOVE IT!

OMG. Do yo know what the bizarre thing is? The more I look through the photo's the more I actually start to take a shine to them? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate the collection, it's just the fact that I've loved Erdem's work for such a long time: I feel that he is one of the only designers that has collections based around the same pieces but designs them so differently everytime, that they look completely brand new as if they've never been seen before.

What do you think about the pre fall collection?

1)Heyaaa, soo I'm going to do this diary entry thing on a Sunday instead (oops with the fact that it's Monday LOL) but it will be better cause then I can talk about the week as a whole, and Sunday is the end of my week :)
2) So, I've just made up a play with my drama group, and we've been going over it over and over again - we gotter get it perfect as it's our exam on Wednesday, anyways this week before Wednesday we have HECTIC drama rehearsals, I'm getting bored of going over it soo many times, I'm beginning to think our own play is CRAP! But hopefully it will go well!

3) Went to work at 'RWD Magazine' on Wednesday, it was good - was SURROUNDED by Jeremy Scott clothes, was really cool haha! Anyways, I've been writing the style pages for the upcoming trends for 2011, and my boss sent me the drafted pages, I was soo happy cause they look great!  I'll deffo show you the pages when the magazine comes out. Next time I go in will be on Thursday and Scorcher is going to be in the office, soo excited!

4) Got a new ring, whilst I went shopping - it's a rabbit I think? and an owl necklace ha, both from Primark :p

5) My weekend was great and STRESS free, went up Brick lane with one of my good mates, and looked through all the vintage shops, it was really good, there was a massive vintage fair aswell - think I should've taken some photos :(  Then I went to my boyfriends, and just stayed the night, went nando's aswell :p

I'm not really a vintage type of girl, my style is hip hop chic haha! Don't get me wrong I do wear dress' and skirts, but I have to have something urban about my outfit whether it be trainers, a hoodie or even an accessorie - it's how I feel comfortable!

Website discovery: DROP DEAD actually sell the BEST clothes - Love the shop its up Brick lane, but if you don't live anywhere near there dont worry! You can buy online !! Please check it out, the clothes are sooo unique and just ooze individuality! Kinda got a hip hop urban feel to them aswell? :)

D.I.Y SHYY :)

Heya,

Soo I had a really massive plain white t-shirt, and I had different bits of material floating about, so thought, why not create something?

BEFORE -

The OLD tshirt

AFTER -

Only thing that needs sorting now, is the neck line - I really couldn't be bothered to sew it down though haha, after being up all night sewing, I suffered from what you can call... LAZY SYNDROME haa!

Let me know whatcha think?

Remember - don't just follow fashion, create fashion!
